Social Networking
Teenagers in Hertfordshire are always in-contact with each other. At any time we are never more then a few seconds away from contact with some one else through a cell phone , Facebook , Black berry messenger or What’s App (the I-Phone alternative to the black berry messenger ,) over the years cell phones have slowly integrated into teenagers society and the way they live their day- to- day life so. Some people take what phone they have very seriously, as they believe it’s, part of their overall image. Others treat mobile phones as fashion accessories.
Teenagers in Hertfordshire rely upon social networking sites such as Face book which is one of the most commonly used social networking sites in the UK. Such popularity is due to the fact that it has a range of different uses, from an in built e-mail messaging system , to a live chat service, the tagging of photos ,to event planning , video streaming and more. Because of this, Facebook has set its self up as the King of social networking sites
Other social networking sites, such as Bebo and Myspace, have collapsed because Facebook is so widely as they were essentially the same as Facebook, but they were not as simplistic or as easy to use ,and did not interest such a wide range of people.
Twitter is a new generation of social networking site, which allows people to post what they’re doing any time, any where. It is used by a range of celebrities, unlike Facebook. For example, when Steven fry got stuck in a lift posted “ I am stuck in a broken down lift. “ an electrician posted back how to fix the elevator from the inside . However Twitter doesn’t allow you to upload photos or videos as easily as Facebook does. |
Skype is another way people can communicate; it allows you to perform live text chat or voice and video calls/ conferences. There are also now applications that allow you to download Skype to certain smart phones, where it works in exactly the same way as on your personal computer. Skype also allows you to purchase Skype credit which will mean you can phone any landline or mobile phone anywere in the world.
There are also other programs similar to Skype, such as Windows Live Messenger, Google talk , and Yahoo messenger. However Windows Live Messenger and Skype are the most widely used.
As a teenager living in Hertfordshire I use a wide selection of the communication and social networking technologies available today .I think Facebook is probably one of the greatest inventions ever , as it allows me to stay in contact with a huge range of people at once: even people I know that live in other countries. You can plan a night out in a couple of minutes and then the next day, upload all the photos from the night out. Then there is my phone: I have a smart phone which allows me to use Facebook , receive my emails and use Skype all from one small device. It plays a big part in my every day life, from checking the football scores to watching videos on YouTube.
